Description
The term Aromatherapy was coined in 1928, by Gattefosse, a French chemist, who worked in his familiy’s perfumery business. He discovered the wonderful properties of Lavender, after burning his hand, and by coincidence, after a severe burn, had placed his hand in a vat of what he thought was cold water, it was Lavender. The rapid healing of his burn, the properties were discovered, it then became Gattefosse’s mission, discovering the therapeutic possibilities of the oils.
As early as 1904, Cutherbert Hall had discovered the antiseptic power of Eucalyptus, noting it stronger than its isolated active constituent “eucalyptol” or “cineol”
It’s important to note that essential oils have three distinct modse of how they inter relate to the human body: that is pharmacological, physiological, and psychological.
Pharmacological – the chemical changes that take place once the essential oil enters the blood stream, reacting with hormones and enzymes
Physiologically – the way the essential oil effects the systems of the body, whether sedate or stimulate
Psychologically – when it’s inhaled, and a person responds to the odour
The Body Applications
The Skin – Antiseptic, Anti -Inflammatory, Fungicidal, Healing (cell mitosis), Deodorants, insect repellents
The Circulation, Muscles and Joints – Lymphatic stimulants, Hypotensive, Hypertensive, Rubefacients (rheumatism, muscular stiffness, sciatica, lumbago)
The Respiratory System – Nose, Throat, and Lung Infections will respond well to treatments with essential oils, via inhalation
The Digestive System – It is not recommended that essential oils be ingested in Australia, but they can be applied externally and effect changes in the digestive processes
The Genito-Urinary and Endocrine System – Like the digestive system, the endocrine system can be affected by absorption into the bloodstream and through hormonal changes. For e.g with menstrual cramping, labour pains etc
Immune System – Virtually all essential oils have anti-viral and anti- bacterial properties, to help promote the production of white blood cells
The Nervous System– The sedative/stimulating effect of many oils, have a profound effect on the central nervous system. Being used for both settling and calming, as well as uplifting and stimulating
The Mind – Throughout history, essential oils have been used to influence the emotions and states of the mind. Its already known that the 2 olfactory nerve tracts run right into the limbic system (the part of the brain concerned with memory and emotion) evoking an immediate and powerful response
There are so many ways to use essential oils, Massage, Lotions, Compresses, Hair Care, Flower Waters, Baths, Inhalations, Vapourisation, Steam Inhalation, Neat Application
The Just Breathe Wellness Range came from my long-term passion with Aromatherapy, with many years working with pre and post-natal woman in leading Private Hospitals in Sydney Australia
My work with Hypnosis, has only cemented further my love for essential oils, and the importance of how the olfactory system and Limbic System can help clients to easily and effortlessly fall into trance, with the help of the environment, whether in my rooms, or in their own homes when sessions are over zoom
JUST BREATHE WELLNESS
My range of essential oils was inspired by our first lockdown in Sydney 2020. I created 3 blends that I knew could support and reassure people in the uncertain times
The blends are Australian made, pure essential oils, created for you to enjoy in a diffuser, for massage once combined with a carrier oil (10 drops to 50ml of oil, Almond, Jojoba or a carrier oil of your choice) in a bath (place 5 drops in 20ml of carrier oil) or on your pulse points as a perfume.
Remember pure essential oils can cause sensitivity, so discontinue use on skin if sensitive.
Avoid direct contact on your skin if pregnant. Diffusing is perfectly fine
Breathe Away Anxiety 30ml – Lavender, Rosewood, Bergamot, Ylang Ylang – this beautiful combination is perfect for nervous/stress related conditions
Breathe in Peace 30ml– Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Frankincense, Cedarwood – This grounding blend will help you to slow down the and deepen the breath
